Mini-meetup

Finally met Elly Lucas! She moved to Sheffield a couple of months ago and a day out with her and Ella has been in the works since. England has officially moved to Autumn in great form by having three solid days of heavy rain. Go England! We braved the moors outside the city despite ominous clouds. Clouds were unmerciful. The moors are beautiful though and we managed to get a few good shots before going back to Elly's dream house (Ella and I plan to sneakily move in) for tea and bonding over migraines. As you do.

Dressing up

Sarah is usually behind the camera, doing hair and make-up and styling shoots. This time she was convinced to step in front of my lens for a little while. I can't stop thinking how lucky I am to have the Peak District so close. And how much I will miss it when I don't. Miss Sarah was such a trooper during this shoot, stepping into that freezing creek. She managed to actually lay IN it for a few minutes and those photos will be up in a few days. My Lightroom 3 died a horrible death but it has now been replaced by the newest version and I'll be able to edit normally again. Expect more soon.

Self-portrait week - Day 5

First night-time portrait. Takes me back to when I left my 365 photo for too late. Which happened far too often for my liking. Low lighting is still murky territory for me, so I made up for my lack of technical prowess with loads of make-up. Yes, this took a while to remove. A good 10 minutes as a mater of fact and my face still has a rather purple-ish tint to it.

Self-portrait week - Day 4

I'm doing three posts in day, not because I've forgotten to take the photos, but because I've had a Lightroom meltdown. It brought my editing to a screeching halt and kept me from getting these up on time. Why no just use Photoshop? I normally use a combination of the two. I'm just more comfortable with the smaller tweaking in Lightroom. These photos where taken before I had my first mini asthma attack in over a decade. Not fun. Day four was one of those days where your original concept is just thrown out the window. Courtesy of the vintage jumper that upset my lungs.

Self-portrait week - Day 3

A bit of nostalgia. I used to ride quite a bit when I was younger. Sadly I haven't in years. I still own this velvet helmet and have been wanting to use it for ages. Slightly unconventional for a portrait but why not.

Self-portrait week - Day 2

Pushing the comfort level. Being outside always feels very vulnerable even though I was by myself.

Self-portrait week - Day 1

I am woefully out of practice and it shows. During my 365 I could whip out a half-decent self-portrait on a daily basis, now it's like removing a splinter: painful and annoying. I do want to get my groove back though, and as I have a free week I decided to do seven days worth of self-portraits. An easy task. I hope.

This first one is safe. I can admit that. It's familiar and comforting. I'll be trying to push my comfort levels the rest of the week.

Street urchin

More black and white. This time it's a walk around Sheffield's city centre with the lovely Amy.

Pine Cones

Finally getting around to sharing these photos from a small photo-adventure with Ella Ruth and our balloon assistant Liam Jack. Gorgeous day at my favourite place in the Peak District. Enough said.
